TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik | Studios™

2006-2008

In early 2006 TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik began a major expansion to their facility in South Windsor, CT. With the expansion came a new technical production lab and clean room for capsule and microphone assembly and new office and warehouse space.

The company also began the complex project of creating a state of the art Research, Test and Development Studio for use in developing new microphone technology. The new recording studio environment is also a major step forward in upgrading TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik's quality control, microphone design, and testing processes.

The studio is based around a modest sized control room situated directly next to the manufacturing and assembly laboratories. While the central location of the control room and isolation booth makes for a positive work flow between the assembly and testing technicians, audio tie lines connect the main assembly area to the control room as well.

This main assembly area can also double as a full on sound stage as it has the massive dimensions of 49x 52' with 35' ceilings. The space has been acoustically designed with non-parallel surfaces through out, complete with a 625 sq. foot dance floor. In addition, there is a ground level truck loading bay into which a full on semi-trailer can be backed and unloaded (in case someone decides to drop off a full sound reinforcement system, piano, etc.).

The studio houses both new and vintage equipment from the former Talcott Mountain Studio facility, originally located in Simsbury, CT, as well as its new center piece, the API 1608 console, along with Pro Tools HD and a selection of excellent nearfield monitoring.

In addition to a veritable cornucopia of hardware from the ages, the studio also employs TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik's rather extensive collection of benchmark vintage microphones from which historic accuracy for the company's Diamond Series is derived.

While this is not your typical "for rent" sound hotel, the staff at TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik have been known to do sessions after hours which keeps the crew's recording skill and critical listening skills finely sharpened and tuned for the development of new and exciting microphone products. By having both "top of the line" as well as "mid grade" outboard pre-amps and processing gear the development team at TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik is able to keep in step with the needs and desires of the modern recordist.
