The Original D.O.G., Hip Hop Veteran Snoop Doggy Dogg

Once in a while a genre comes along that changes the face of music as we know it. When Rock N Roll took over the scene, some 60+ years ago, many people thought "this is just a flash in the pan." Those same thoughts came around for Rap & Hip Hop when it started in the late 1970's. Here it is some 30 years later, Rap & Hip Hop have stayed the course and engulfed themselves into a culture, community and lifestyle all it's own. One of the forerunners of that genre is none other than "Tha Doggfather" himself Snoop Doggy Dogg.

Snoop's beginnings began early in his childhood. His muscial roots started out by him singing and playing piano in his local church, but Snoop evolved into rapping by the time he was in sixth grade. Snoop's name came about as a nickname his family gave him for his appearance, but to this day his family still addresses him by his birth name when at home. Growing up in Long Beach, Snoop lead the typical "rebelious youth" life as a teenager which started him on his path to his musical career, proving sometimes "misdirection can be direction."

Once Snoop had focused his energies on music and hip hop, there was no stopping him. Becoming one of Hip hop's forerunners and trend setters throughout the 1990's and 2000's, Snoop has always been a leader in his genre. Snoop's style is one all its own; he is one of the few artists to use rhythm and blues, as well as funk as the backbeat of his compositions. Classic Favorites such as "Nuthin' But a "G" Thang," "Gin and Juice" and "Drop It Like It's Hot" have given him Grammy Award nominations that others in the Hip Hip genre have yet to achieve.

Snoop is well known for his success as an artist, but it's his collaborative efforts that bring attention to his career, working with such great artists as Nate Dogg, Mariah Carey, Charlie Wilson, The Pussycat Dolls and Bootsy Collins. Snoop and Bootsy just recently attended the 127th NAMM show and both gentlemen stopped by the T-Funk booth. Impressed with the performance of TELEFUNKEN mics he tried out, Snoop picked up a new AK-47 to add to his collection, which now includes three AK-47s, two M-16 MkIIs, and three ELA M 260s. And recently Snoop also acquired our new, Limited Edition Gold and Chrome M80s to round out his collection, reflecting his singular style.

Whether he is working on solo or collaborative projects, Snoop brings a vibe all it's own to anything he does. An eye for style and an ear for greatness Snoop is truly a one of a kind artist. We are looking forward to hearing Bootsy and Snoop's new album they are cutting in the studio as we speak. It is sure to be another masterpiece from both gentlemen and a true "Funken Classic."
