Some artists in the music industry lead by example. They are led with a vision and passion that cannot be equalled any other way than to follow their unique pathway to greatness. Andrés Giménez, with his band D-MENTE, is one of those great visionary artists following his own unique path.
Andrés Giménez, born in Argentina on April 27, 1967, grew up listening to all the music of his country and also from around the world. In 1992, he created and became the ideologue of one of the most important Spanish speaking Metal Music bands in Latin America: A.N.I.M.A.L. (Acosados. Nuestros. Indios.Murieron.Al Luchar, which translates as "Harassed, our indigenous peoples died fighting"). In 2006, Andrés Giménez decided to move on its own and started a new independent project called D-MENTE (insane), where he currently plays. To date he is working on a new project called De La Tierra (Out of Earth) together with Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), Alex González (Maná) and Sr. Flavio (Fabulosos Cadillacs).
In A.N.I.M.A.L., he recorded and published seven records between 1993 and 2005:
1993 – A.N.I.M.A.L (Indie)
1994 – Fin de un mundo enfermo (End of a sick world) (Indie).
1996 – El nuevo camino del hombre (The new path of man) (Warner Argentina).
1998 – Poder latino (Latin power) (Warner Argentina).
1999 – Usa toda tu fuerza (Use all your strength) (Warner Argentina). Music co producer.
2001 – A.N.I.M.A.L. 6. (Warner Argentina). Music co producer.
2004 – Combativo (Combative). (Universal Mexico). Music producer.
D-MENTE have released five albums:
2006 – D-MENTE (Indie). Music producer.
2008 – Valiente eternidad (Brave eternity). (Indie). Music producer.
2009 – Morir para nacer (Die to be born) CD + DVD. (Indie). Music producer.
2009 – Un León D-Mente (An insane lion). (EMI). Recorded together with León Gieco. Music producer.
2010 – No es el premio ganar sin saber lo que fue perder (Winning is not a prize if you don't know the meaning of having lost.) (Indie). Music producer.
De la Tierra's first, eponymous album was recorded in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and the United States between March and June 2013 and released November 5, 2013 on Warner Music Latina (#537764). It was produced by the band and mixed by Stanley Soares. The records of A.N.I.M.A.L. and D-Mente ere published in Latin America, the United States and Europe, and the tours visited several countries around the world.
The Concept of A.N.I.M.A.L. was much like the concept of the band Rage Against The Machine here in the United States, political in nature and informing the masses of social injustice within the history of the country. This allowed A.N.I.M.A.L. to tap into the energy and feed off the masses with that common thread, unity through the music that is truth.
Andrés Giménez has been rewarded as one of the most important Spanish speaking "Metal" leaders by the media in several countries. He shared the stage with bands like Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies, Soulfly, Bad Religion, Biohazard, NOFX, Millencollin, Green Day, Papa Roach, No Doubt, Sum 41, Die Toten Hosen, Sepultura, Marilyn Manson, P.O.D, Evanescence, Mötley Crüe, Avenged Sevenfold, Queen of the stone age, Rage Against the Machine, Slipknot, the American and European Warped tour, etc.
He has been the only "Metal" singer and guitar player that performed distorted sounds at the legendary Teatro Colón opera house in the City of Buenos Aires to set to music the poems of the great writers Jorge Luis Borges and Pablo Neruda.
When Andrés formed his new band D-MENTE) in 2006, the concept one with a different feel than A.N.I.M. A.L.. The central idea which started the project was not looking like A.N.I.M.A.L., but rather have their own sound closer to classic rock. D-MENTE is Andrés Giménez (guitar and vocals), Lisa Alvarez former guitarist Tostus Toss (guitar, vocals), Marcelo Baraj (drums) and Cristian Cocchiararo (bass).
Andrés has recorded with and produced several colleagues, like Max Cavalera (Sepultura and Soulfly), Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead), Robert Trujillo (Suicidal Tendencies and Metallica), Jimmy De Grasso (Suicidal Tendencies and Megadeth), Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory), João Gordo (Ratos de Porão), León Gieco, Ricardo Mollo (Divididos), Control Machete and Alex Lora (El tri), among others. His songs have also been included in over 200 compilations around the world.
Undoubtedly, Andrés Giménez was and still is one of the best world renowned musicians and producers of Latin Metal in the history of Argentinian and Latin American rock.
