While TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik is well known for our historic recreation microphones, they can be a bit pricey. The idea behind the R-F-T Series of microphones is to bring affordable microphones that deliver amazing tone to both budget minded studios and seasoned professionals. As a result of combining custom designed electronics with standardized parts from overseas manufacturers, TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik has been able to bring the best of both worlds together in a series of microphones that are destined to become the classics of tomorrow.
While the capsule is built off shore, it is tested to very high tolerances for consistency in our Connecticut based US laboratory. The capsule is then coupled to our very own custom amplifier circuit and output transformer, both designed and built here in the USA. The core of this amplifier is a NOS [New Old Stock] ECC81 vacuum tube, which is mated with our custom circuit and output transformer to produce a microphone rivaling the performance and sonic quality of other microphones that are many (MANY!!) times its price.
In use, the R-F-T M16mkII is a fantastic utility mic. Its smooth mid-range, open top end, and solid, well-balanced lows make it a great choice on anything from vocals to drums and percussion to acoustic guitar to saxophone. The remote pattern selector (located on the power supply) provides 9 different polar patterns, giving the user a myriad of choices for how to record the source sound in a manner that will best compliment their production.
