Dix Hills, NY, December, 2009 — Long Island's Five Towns College has chosen 16 TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik microphones for its state-of-the-art recording studios and sound stages for film and television. The college was founded in 1974 and is one of the few institutions across the U.S. to offer a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
John Machado, co-chair of the audio division, remarked, "These microphones have brought a new level of recording quality to Five Towns College. Their incredible sound has been evident since the first use. We have bench tested them against all our other microphones and the superiority is evident with each test. Simply put, they just sound great."
TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustic is renowned for microphones that faithfully recreate the
legendary vintage sound of the classic microphones of the past. Five Towns College's sizeable acquisition is comprised of matched pairs of the large diaphragm ELA M 251E, U-47, and M16MkII mics, the ELA M 260 with interchangeable capsules, and RM-5C ribbon mics; an AK-47 multi-pattern condenser mic, an M216 Matrix Stereo, and four M 80 dynamic stage and studio mics.
Located on 35 acres of wooded countryside on Long Island's North Shore, Five Towns College is the first in New York State to establish and offer programs in business music and jazz/commercial music. The reputation for music programs has attracted numerous well known recording artists, some of whom have become instructors at the college. Notable alumni/past students include Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Nicole Albino of Nina Sky, and Olivia of G-Unit.
