On the weekend of March 30th to April 1, 2012, The Olympic Ass-Kickin Team (aka O.A.K. Team) tracked "Girls with Glasses" at SoundPure Studios in Durham, North Carolina. The session was produced and engineered by "Fletcher" [formerly of Mercenary Audio], who made sure you had a myriad of mix options as you craft your balance for this fun little pop song.
The song is called "Girls With Glasses" and features prominent parts from a 12-String electric guitar [both finger played as well as slide], "tremolo" guitar, "loud" and "lead guitars", as well as Wurlitzer piano, Hammond B-3 with a Leslie 145; driving drums with various ancillary percussion elements [tambourine and castanets], and lots of backing vocals.
The recording features some excellent microphone / preamp combinations. Vintech, A-Design, Sebatron and Phoenix Audio microphone amplifiers were all employed. The recording session mainly features the R-F-T line of tube dynamic mics on the drums, as well as the M80 on snare and the yet-to-be released dynamic M82 on Kick drum (and Leslie bottom rotor).
Terry Anderson and the Olympic Ass-Kickin Team take their cues from the likes of The Faces, NRBQ and The Rolling Stones, offering their brand of rock fast and loose and with some country-esque overtones. Hailing from North Carolina, the band features Terry Anderson on drums and vocals, Dave Bartholomew on guitars and vocals, Jack Cornell on bass and vocals, with Greg Rice on Keyboards. Engineered and produced by CN Fletcher, the session showcases some unique microphone techniques, that include mics for both the tops and bottom of all the toms, as well as non-traditional distant and room mic'ing for the acoustic and electric guitars, and backing vocals.
The multi-track files from this recording session are now available for download as part of the lasted installment of the TELEFUNKEN Multi-Track Session Files. The audio files are presented as 44.1k / 24bit .WAV and can be imported into the digital audio workstation (DAW) of your choice. All the files are clearly labeled in the same format with the source listed first (LEAD VOX, ACOUSTIC, PIANO), followed by the microphone used (C12, AR-51, etc), and then the make and model of pre amplifier (Vintech 573, A-Design "Ventura" and "Pacifica", Sebatron VMP-4, etc.).
